Launched in the year 2022, the 55C835 is a 55" 4K TV from TCL. It comes with a True 10-bit VA panel with Anti-glare/Matte finish. It can achieve a max resolution of 3840 x 2160 @ 144 Hz with a pixel density of 80 ppi.
Picture Quality
Now, the next important feature of a display that defines picture quality is Color Gamut.
The TCL 55C835 is rated with a DCI P3 coverage of 97% — equivalent to 132.27% sRGB coverage. The color quality on this TV should be Lifelike!
What is Color gamut ?
Color gamut spec of a TV is a measure of the range of colors that the display can show.
A display with poor color accuracy will produce undersaturated colors that will spoil your immersive experience.
Different manufacturers use different measurement standards to define color gamut. Viz — sRGB (standard RGB), NTSC, DCI P3 etc.
In case of this TV, its color gamut is specified using DCI P3.
But you don't need to worry about that, here is a chart that you can use to choose a TV with good color accuracy.
After color gamut, you should look at the static contrast specification as it influences the picture quality substantially.
What is Static Contrast ?
The static contrast ratio of a TV corresponds to its Black levels. A TV with low static contrast ratio (<1000:1) will not produce deep blacks. Apart from this, such TVs often suffer from backlight bleeds such as below:

Needless to say, this will impact your viewing experience considerably, especially in a dark room.
Static contrast ratio and resolution go hand in hand when it comes to details. To put it into perspective, a TV with low contrast ratio will show both dark gray and black as black, so lesser detail overall.
This TV features a static contrast ratio of 8000:1., well enough to achieve deep blacks and eye-catching visuals. The panel comes with local dimming backlight technology which is a plus.
HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, Dolby Vision IQ, HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) and PQ10 are also supported on this TV.
Coming to brightness, the peak brightness it can produce is 1000 nits, powered by Mini LED backlight. This amount of brightness is good enough even for a well-lit room!
Gaming Performance
If you are planning to use your TV just for content consumption, you can ignore these specifications. But if you are also planning to use the TV for gaming or use it as a PC monitor, make sure to take a TV that features the lowest input lag and response time.
Unfortunately, TCL did not specify the input lag on this unit. But as this is not a cheap TV from TCL, we can expect an input lag of less than 20ms.
Understanding Input lag and response time
This lag is the latency at which key-presses/mouse movements changes the content of your TV. Though, this won't matter much if you aren't into competitive/FPS games like call of duty.
For best of both worlds, get a TV that features an input lag and response time of < 20ms.
Dimensions and Ergonomics
The width of this TV is 48.27 inches while its height is 31.26 inches. It is just 2.68 inches thick.
It weighs 16.7 KGs and an additional 2.0 kgs if you include stand. So plan your space accordingly.
Coming to ergonomics — If you plan to wall mount the TV, you can make use of the VESA mount provided with this TV, which by the way has an interface size of 300 x 300 mm. The unit doesn't come with Swivel, Tilt or Pivot support.
Hardware and Audio
The core of TCL 55C835 is powered by 4-Core 1.6 Ghz (ARM Cortex-A73) CPU along with a Dual Core 0.55 Ghz (ARM Mali-G52 2EE MP2) GPU.. However, TCL didn't provide any information on the available RAM on the TV's specsheet.
For display connectivity, TCL has provided four HDMI 2.1 ports and one AV Composite In 3.5 mm jack port on this TV.
For connecting USB devices, it includes two USB 2.0 ports. Other connectivity ports include — 1x Satellite In (F-type female), 1x Antenna (RF) (female), 1x CI+ 1.4 and 1x Ethernet RJ45.
For connecting to this TV wirelessly, the manufacturer has provided Wi-Fi (5Ghz + 2.5Ghz), Wifi-Direct, Bluetooth and DLNA.
Now, for audio, it is packaged with 2 x 10W built-in speakers. It also comes with a built-in sub-woofer. So you don't have to invest on any external sound system.
Speaking of power consumption, it consumes 103W on average and 0.29W on standby.
For powering this unit, you'll require an 220 V - 240 V/50 Hz - 60 Hz outlet.
