ABOUT THIS TV

Sony KD-55X75K 400x400 Image Sony KD-55X75K

The KD-55X75K is a 55 inch 4K TV from Sony. It was launched in 2022. It features a 10-bit IPS panel. The max. resolution it can achieve is 3840 x 2160 with a refresh rate of 60 Hz and a pixel density of 80 ppi.

Picture Quality

After screen size and resolution, the next important spec of a display is its Color Reproduction Accuracy, which is defined by its color gamut specification.

Sony has not provided a color gamut specification for this TV. So we have to take a guess.

Considering the TV features amassive 55 inch screen, it won't come with a cheap panel, so here we can assume its equivalent sRGB coverage to be 90-100% or above. The color accuracy on this TV will be Lifelike! Meaning it will produce color accurate images by default.

What is Color gamut ?

Color gamut spec of a display indicates the range of colors that the TV can show.

A TV with poor color accuracy will produce undersaturated colors that will not be pretty to look at.

Different manufacturers use different units to define color gamut. Such as — sRGB (standard RGB), NTSC 1953, DCI P3 etc.

But you don't need to worry about that, below is a chart that will help you choosing a TV with good color accuracy.

Color Gamut Chart

Now, after color gamut, you should look at the static contrast specification as it influences the picture quality the same way.

Understanding the static contrast ratio of a TV

There are 2 types of contrast specifications for a TV. Static and Dynamic. We are interested in static contrast ratio as dynamic doesn't matter much.

Static contrast specification defines the intensity of black levels. That is, a TV with static contrast ratio less than 1000:1 may produce black images something like this:

Example of a disply with low contrast ratio

Moreover, such TVs may suffer from backlight bleeds that will rob your experience — as shown below.

Like resolution, the static contrast ratio is also equally responsible for details. To put it into perspective, a TV with low contrast ratio will produce less shades of colors, so lesser detail overall.

This TV features a static contrast ratio of 8000:1., good enough to achieve deep blacks and eye-catching visuals. The panel comes with local dimming backlight which is a plus.

HDR10 and HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) are also supported on this TV.

Coming to brightness, it is can produce a maximum brightness of 250 nits with the help of Direct LED backlight.

Gaming Performance

If you are planning to use your TV just for content consumption, you can safely ignore these specifications. But if you are also going to use the TV for playing games or use it as a PC monitor, you should get a TV that features the lowest input lag and response time.

Unfortunately, we cannot find the input lag specification for this unit. Now, as this is not a cheap TV, input lag on this TV could be 20ms or below.

Understanding Input lag and response time

This lag is the amount of time at which inputs changes the content of the screen. For casual Non-FPS games, input lag doesn't matter much.

Although for better experience, get a TV that features an input lag and response time of < 20ms.

Dimensions and Ergonomics

The TV measures 55 inches vertically and 48.94 inches horizontally.

It is 3.31 inches thick.

It weighs approximately 13.9 kilograms and an additional 0.6 kgs including stand. So plan your space accordingly.

Now, coming to ergonomics — If you plan to wall mount the TV, you can make use of the VESA mount provided with this TV, which by the way has an interface size of 400 x 200 mm. The unit doesn't come with Swivel, Tilt or Pivot support.

Hardware and Audio

The core of Sony KD-55X75K is powered by a Quad Core CPU. There is no data on the total available RAM on the TV's official specsheet.

For display connectivity, there are three HDMI 2.0 ports and one AV Composite In 3.5 mm jack port on this TV.

For connecting USB devices, you will have two USB ports. Other connectivity ports include — 1x Cable/Antenna In (F-type female) and 1x Ethernet RJ45.

Wireless connectivity options on the Sony KD-55X75K include a 5Ghz Wi-Fi, 2.5 Ghz Wi-Fi, Wifi-Direct, Bluetooth and DLNA.

The Audio unit of this TV is powered by 2 x 10W built-in speakers.

Now, coming to power usage, on average, this TV consumes about 113.28 watts. On standby, it uses 0.5 watts.

For powering this unit, you will require either a 110V or 220V outlet @ 50Hz-60Hz.
