The QE55QN90B is a 55 inch 4K TV from Samsung. It was launched in 2022. It features a True 10-bit IPS panel with Anti-glare/Matte finish.
It can display a maximum resolution of 3840 x 2160 with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and pixel density of 80 ppi.
After screen size and resolution, the next important feature to look for in a display is its Color Reproduction Accuracy (defined by its color gamut specification).
The Samsung QE55QN90B comes with 100% DCI P3 color gamut coverage. FYI, this is equivalent to 136.36% sRGB. The color quality on this TV should be Lifelike!
What Color Gamut means ?
Color gamut specification of a display indicates the range of colors that it can display.
What this means is, it determines the ability of a display to produce accurate colors. A panel with low color gamut coverage will miss out on some colors (such as deep red), the result would be a "washed out" picture quality.
Different manufacturers use different units to specify color gamut. Such as — sRGB (most popular), NTSC, DCI P3 Adobe RGB and rec.2020.
For example, the color gamut of this TV is specified in DCI P3.
But don't worry, below is a chart that you can use to choose a TV with good color accuracy.
Other than color accuracy, the static contrast of a TV similarly impacts its picture quality.
Understanding the static contrast ratio of a TV
There are two types of contrast specifications for a TV. Static and Dynamic. We are interested in static contrast ratio. Dynamic doesn't matter much.
This specification tells the intensity of black levels. That is, a TV with static contrast ratio < 1000:1 may produce black images something like this:
Apart from this, such TVs may suffer from backlight bleeds that will impact your experience — as shown below. The image is an example of another display, it is not this one
Also, a TV with high constrast ratio enables you to see more details. So, resolution and static contrast ratio go hand in hand in a sense.
If given a choice, always prefer a FHD TV with high contrast ratio over a 4K TV with low contrast ratio.
This TV comes with a static contrast ratio of 8000:1., enough to achieve deep blacks. For the record, it also comes with local dimming backlight which is a plus.
HDR10, HDR10+, HDR10+ Adaptive, HDR10+ Gaming, HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) and Quantum HDR 2000 are also supported on this TV, so that's a plus.
Coming to brightness, it can go as bright as 250 nits, powered by Mini LED backlight technology.
If you aren't planning to game on this TV, you can ignore these specifications. But if you are also going to use the TV for playing games or use it as a PC monitor, you would want to take a TV with the lowest input lag and response time.
The input lag on this TV is 6 ms and its minimum response time is N/A. So its a go-to TV if you are interested in gaming.
Understanding Input lag and response time
This lag is the amount of time at which key-presses or mouse movements changes the content of your TV. Though, this won't matter much if you aren't into competitive/FPS games like call of duty.
For best of both worlds, look for a TV that comes with an input lag and response time of less than 20ms.
Dimensions and Ergonomics
The vertical and horizontal measurements of this TV are 48.32 inches and 30.24 inches respectively.
Speaking of thickness, it is 1 inches thick. In total this TV weighs around 21.9 KGs (including stand). Without stand, it weighs 17.7 Kgs. So plan your space accordingly.
Speaking of ergonomics — If you plan to wall mount the TV, you can make use of the VESA mount provided with this TV, which by the way has an interface size of 400 x 300 mm. Swivel, Tilt or Pivot features are not supported on this unit.
Hardware and Audio
The internals of this TV is powered by a Quad Core CPU. However, Samsung didn't provide any info on the RAM on this TV.
Speaking of OS, the Samsung QE55QN90B runs Tizen 6.5 Operating System.
For display connectivity, Samsung has provided three HDMI 2.0 ports and one HDMI 2.1 port on this TV.
