The Philips 27B1U7903 is a 27 inch 4K Monitor from Philips, launched in the year 2022. It comes with a True 10-bit IPS panel with Anti-glare/Matte (3H) finish. It can display a max resolution of 3840 x 2160 with a refresh rate of 75 Hz and pixel density of 163 ppi.

Picture Quality

After screen size and resolution, the next important spec of a Display that defines picture quality is Color Gamut.

The Philips 27B1U7903 features 97% DCI P3 color gamut coverage. Incase you're wondering, this is equivalent to 132.55% sRGB. The color quality on this monitor should be Lifelike! Apart from giving you a truly world-class experience, this display will also be useful for professionals who are interested in photo editing and color grading business.

What Color Gamut means ?

Color gamut spec of a display is the measurement of the range of colors that the display can display.

A display with poor color reproduction will produce undersaturated colors that will not be pretty to look at.

Different manufacturers use different units to define color gamut. Such as — sRGB (most popular), NTSC, DCI P3 etc.

In case of this Monitor, its color gamut is specified in DCI P3.

But don't worry, here is a chart that you can use to choose a Monitor with good color accuracy.

Color Gamut Chart

Now, next in the list is Static Contrast.

Understanding the static contrast ratio of a Display

A Display with low static contrast ratio will not produce deep enough blacks and can bleed backlight as in the images below:

Backlight bleed exampleThe image is an example of another display, it is not this one

The static contrast ratio of above Display is rated 800:1. So make sure you get a Display with a static contrast of >= 1000:1. More the better.

Also, static contrast ratio and resolution go hand in hand when it comes to details. To put it into perspective, a Display with low contrast ratio will produce less shades of colors, so lesser detail overall.

If given a choice, always prefer a FHD Display with high contrast ratio over a 4K Display with low contrast ratio.

This Monitor is rated with a static contrast ratio of 1300 : 1 — good enough for a display in this range.

DisplayHDR 1400 is also supported on this Monitor, so that's a plus.

As for brightness, it is can produce a maximum brightness of 1400 nits. The backlight used on its panel is Mini LED. This amount of brightness is good enough even for a room with sun's rays in!

Gaming Performance

Now if you need a display primarily for gaming, you would want to take a Monitor with lowest input lag and response times.

Unfortunately, Philips did not specify the input lag on this unit.

But since this is not a cheap Display from Philips, we can expect an input lag of less than 20ms.

What is Input Lag and Why it matters ?

This lag is the latency at which device inputs changes the content of your Monitor. For casual Non-FPS games, input lag doesn't matter much.

Although for better experience, look for a Monitor that features an input lag and response time of < 20ms.

Ergonomics and Dimensions

Now, speaking of ergonomics — VESA mount is supported on this Monitor with an interface size of 100 x 100 mm. It also supports tilt, swivel and pivot.

Vertically, the Monitor extends upto 15.16 inches (adjustable +5.12 inches) and horizontally 24.13 inches. Speaking of thickness, it is just 2.72 inches thick.

In total this monitor weighs 9.43 kgs (including stand). Without stand, it weighs 7.02 kgs.
