Launched in the year 2022, the MSI Pro MP271C is a 27" Full HD Monitor from MSI. It comes with a 8-bit Curved VA panel with Anti-glare/Matte finish. It can display a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 @ 75 Hz with a pixel density of 81 ppi.
After screen size and resolution, the next important specification to look for in a Display is its Color Reproduction Accuracy, which is defined by its color gamut specification.
This Monitor features 78% DCI P3 color gamut coverage. Incase you're wondering, this is equivalent to 106.09% sRGB coverage. The color quality on this monitor will be Lifelike! Apart from giving you a truly world-class experience, it will also be useful for professional photographers who are into photo editing or color grading business.
What is Color gamut ?
Color gamut spec of a display is a measure of the range of colors that the monitor can produce.
A display with poor color reproduction will produce washed out colors that will spoil the immersion.
Different manufacturers use different measurement standards to define color gamut. Such as — sRGB (most popular), NTSC, DCI P3 to name a few.
For example, the color gamut of this Monitor is specified in DCI P3.
But don't worry, below is a chart that will help you choosing a Monitor with good color accuracy.
Next in the list of important specifications that will impact your experience is Static Contrast.
Why its important?
The static contrast ratio of a Display corresponds to its Black levels. A Display with low static contrast ratio (less than 1000:1) will not produce deep blacks. Apart from this, such monitors may suffer from backlight bleeds such as below:The image is an example of another display, it is not this one
Clearly this will rob your viewing experience considerably, especially in a dark room.
Like resolution, the static contrast ratio is also equally responsible for details. To put it into perspective, a Display with low contrast ratio will produce less shades of colors, so lesser detail overall.
This display is rated with a static contrast ratio of 4000 : 1, well enough to produce deep blacks.
As for brightness, the peak luminance the Display can achieve is 250 nits, powered by W-LED backlight technology.
Now if you want a display primarily for gaming, you should get a Monitor with lowest input lag and response times.
Sadly, we cannot find the input lag specification for this unit.
Now, VA panels in general come with high input lags and response times. So, the input lag on this Display could be 20ms or above. Though, there's no concern for playability of casual or Non-FPS games on it.
What is Input lag ?
This lag is the amount of time at which device inputs changes the content of the Monitor. Though, this won't matter much if you aren't into competitive/FPS games like call of duty.
Although for better experience, get a Display that comes with an input lag and response time of less than 20ms.
Dimensions and Ergonomics
Vertically, the Monitor measures 27 inches and horizontally 24 inches. Coming to thickness, it is just 3.14 inches thick.
Overall it weighs 5.4 Kgs including stand. Without stand, it weighs 4.31 Kgs. So plan your desk space accordingly.
Now, coming to ergonomics — If you plan to wall mount the Monitor, you can make use of 100 x 100 mm VESA mount (to be purchased separately). However, there is no Swivel or Pivot support in this monitor except Tilt support.
For display connectivity, there are one HDMI 1.4 port and one D-sub port on this monitor.
However, there are no USB ports are included on this unit.
The monitor also comes with 2 x 2W built-in speakers.
Speaking of power usage, on average, this monitor uses 36.8W and on standby, it uses 0.31 W.
Both 110V and 220V lines are supported on this unit.
