Picture Quality

Now, the very next spec of a Display that impacts picture quality is Color Gamut.

Speaking of which, this monitor comes with 85% DCI P3 color gamut coverage. FYI, this is equivalent to 115.91% sRGB. The color accuracy on this monitor will be Lifelike! Thus, it will also be useful for professional photographers who are into photo editing and color grading business.

What Color Gamut means ?

Color gamut specification of a Monitor is the measurement of the range of colors that the monitor can display.

In layman terms, this specification tells the ability of a monitor to produce accurate colors. A panel with low gamut coverage will miss out on some colors (such as deep red), so the image produced will look "washed out" in colors.

It is specified in different units - sRGB(most popular), NTSC, DCI P3 Adobe RGB, rec.2020. It is upto the manufacturer which one they choose.

In case of this Monitor, its color gamut is specified using DCI P3.

But don't worry, below is a chart that you can use to choose a Monitor with good color accuracy.

Color Gamut Chart

Now, after color gamut, you should look at the static contrast specification as it influences the picture quality substantially.

Understanding Static Contrast

Static contrast ratio of a Display corresponds to its Black levels. A Display with low static contrast ratio (<1000:1) will not produce deep blacks. Moreover, such monitors are likely to suffer from backlight bleeds such as below:

This will affect your viewing experience, especially in a dark room.

Also note, static contrast ratio and resolution go hand in hand when it comes to details. To put it into perspective, a Display with low contrast ratio will produce less shades of colors, thus lesser detail overall.

If given a choice, always prefer a FHD Display with high contrast ratio over a 4K Display with low contrast ratio.

This monitor is rated with a static contrast ratio of 3000 : 1, good enough to produce deep blacks and eye-catching visuals.

As for brightness, it is can achieve a peak brightness of 300 nits. The backlight used on the panel is W-LED.

Gaming Performance

Now if you need a display primarily for gaming, you would want to take a Monitor that features the lowest input lag and response times.

The input lag on the MSI Optix G271CP is 5 ms and its minimum response time is 1 ms. Pick this one if you are a gamer.

Understanding Input lag and response time

This lag is the latency at which key-presses or mouse movements changes the content of your Monitor. Though, this won't matter much if you aren't into competitive/FPS games like call of duty.

Although for better experience, get a Monitor that features an input lag and response time of less than 20ms.

Ergonomics and Dimensions

Speaking of ergonomics — VESA mount is supported on this Monitor with an interface size of 100 x 100 mm. It also supports Swivel and Tilt, but there is no support for Pivot on this Monitor.

The width of this Display is 23.88 inches while its height is 18.98 inches ( adjustable upto 3.54 inches ). It weighs 3.8 KGs and 1.2 kgs extra if you include its stand. So plan your desk space accordingly.

For display connectivity, MSI has provided two HDMI 2.0 (b; CEC) ports and one DisplayPort 1.2 (a) port on this Monitor.

However, USB ports are not provided on this unit.

In terms of power consumption, it uses 76.8 watts on average and 0.5 watts on standby.

Both 110V and 220V lines are supported on this unit.
