The 55P735 is a 55 inch 4K TV from TCL. It was launched in 2022. It comes with a 10-bit VA panel.
It can display a maximum resolution of 3840 x 2160 @ 60 Hz with a pixel density of 80 ppi.
After screen size and resolution, the very next specification of a display that defines picture quality is its Color Gamut.
This TV comes with 70% DCI P3 color gamut coverage — equivalent to 95.45% sRGB. Meaning, the color quality on this TV will be excellent! So your viewing experience would be world class on this TV.
What Color Gamut means ?
Color gamut specification of a TV indicates the range of colors that the TV can display.
A display with poor color accuracy will produce undersaturated colors that will spoil the immersion.
Different manufacturers use different measurement standards to define color gamut. Viz — sRGB (most popular), NTSC 1953, DCI P3 Adobe RGB and rec.2020.
As for this TV its color gamut is specified using DCI P3.
But you don't need to worry about that, here is a chart that will help you choosing a TV with good color accuracy.
Now, after color gamut, the static contrast of a TV similarly impacts its picture quality.
What is Static Contrast ratio ?
Static contrast ratio of a TV corresponds to its Black levels. A Display with low static contrast ratio (<1000:1) will not produce deep blacks. Apart from this, such displays may suffer from backlight bleeds such as below:The image is an example of another display, it is not this one
Needless to say, this will affect your experience considerably, especially in a dark room.
Think of static contrast as another dimension to details — just like resolution. To put it into perspective, a TV with low contrast ratio will show both dark gray and black as black, thus lesser detail overall.
If given a choice, I will prefer a FHD TV with high contrast ratio over a 4K TV with low contrast ratio.
This TV comes with a static contrast ratio of 5000 : 1., well enough to display deep blacks and eye-catching visuals. For the record, it also comes with local dimming backlight technology which is a plus.
HDR is also supported on this TV in form of HDR10, HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) and Dolby Vision.
As for brightness, the peak brightness the TV can achieve is 300 nits, powered by Direct LED backlight technology.
If you are planning to use your TV solely for content consumption, you can safely ignore these specs. But if you are also planning to use the TV for gaming or use it as a PC monitor, make sure to get a TV with the lowest input lag and response time.
The input lag on this TV is 15 ms and its minimum response time is 6.5 ms. It is good enough for both casual and competitive/FPS games.
What is Input Lag and Why it matters ?
This lag is the latency at which your key-presses/mouse movements changes the content of your TV. For casual Non-FPS games, input lag doesn't matter much.
For best of both worlds, get a TV that features an input lag and response time of less than 20ms.
Ergonomics and Dimensions
Speaking of ergonomics — If you plan to wall mount the TV, you can make use of the VESA mount provided with this TV, which by the way has an interface size of 200 x 300 mm. There is no Swivel, Tilt or Pivot feature support on this TV.
The width of this TV is 48.27 inches while its height is 30.16 inches.
Coming to thickness, it is just 1.73 inches thick. It weighs around 12.6 kgs and an additional 0.9 kgs if you include stand.
