The 55C735 is a 55 inch 4K TV from TCL, launched in the year 2022. It comes with a 10-bit VA panel. The maximum resolution it can achieve is 3840 x 2160 with a refresh rate of 144 Hz and a pixel density of 80 ppi.
After screen size and resolution, the next important specification of a display that impacts picture quality is Color Gamut.
This TV doesn't provide a color gamut specification, so we have to make an assumption based on its panel type. Considering the TV features amassive 55 inch screen, it won't come with a cheap panel, so here we can assume its equivalent sRGB coverage to be 90-100% or above. Undoubtedly The color quality on this TV should be Lifelike! Meaning it is capable of producing accurate colors by default.
Understanding the Color Gamut Specification
Color gamut specification of a display is the measurement of the range of colors that it can display.
What this means is, it tells the ability of a TV to produce accurate colors. A TV with low color gamut coverage will miss out on some colors (such as deep red), the result would be a "washed out" picture quality.
Different manufacturers use different units to specify color gamut. Such as — sRGB (most popular), NTSC 1953, DCI P3 etc.
But you don't need to worry about that, below is a chart that you can use to choose a TV with good color accuracy.
Other than color accuracy, the static contrast of a TV similarly impacts its picture quality.
Understanding the static contrast specification
A TV with high enough static contrast ratio will produce natural deep blacks while a TV with low contrast ratio (<1000:1) will produce images that may look dusty as shown in below image.
As you can imagine, this will impact your experience considerably.
Static contrast ratio and resolution go hand in hand when it comes to details. To put it into perspective, a TV with low contrast ratio will produce less shades of colors, thus lesser detail overall.
This TV is rated with a static contrast ratio of 8000:1., good enough to display deep blacks. The panel comes with local dimming which is a plus.
HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) and Dolby Vision IQ are also supported on this TV, so that's a plus.
As for brightness, it is can produce a peak luminance of 250 nits. The backlight of this TV is powered by Direct LED technology.
If you are planning to use your TV solely for content consumption, you can ignore these specifications. But if you are also planning to use the TV for gaming or use it as a PC monitor, make sure to take a TV with the lowest input lag and response time.
The input lag on the TCL 55C735 is 15 ms and its minimum response time is 8 ms. It is good enough for both casual and competitive/FPS games alike.
Understanding Input lag and response time
This lag is the latency at which device inputs changes the content of the screen. For casual Non-FPS games, input lag doesn't matter much.
For best of both worlds, get a TV that comes with an input lag and response time of < 20ms.
Dimensions and Ergonomics
The TV measures 55 inches vertically and 48.27 inches horizontally.
In terms of thickness, it is just 3.15 inches thick. Overall it weighs approximately 13.2 kilograms including its stand. Without stand, it weighs 12.1 KGs. So plan your space accordingly.
Now, coming to ergonomics — The unit doesn't come with Swivel, Tilt or Pivot support.
