ABOUT THIS TV

Sony KD-50X75K 400x400 Image Sony KD-50X75K

The KD-50X75K is a 50 inch 4K TV from Sony, launched in the year 2022. It comes with a 10-bit VA panel. It can display a max resolution of 3840 x 2160 @ 60 Hz with a pixel density of 89 ppi.

Picture Quality

Now, the next important feature of a display that will impact your viewing experience is Color Gamut.

Sony did not provide a color gamut specification for this TV. But don't worry, we have other means to guess that.

Considering the TV features amassive 50 inch screen, it won't come with a cheap panel, so here we can assume its equivalent sRGB coverage to be 90-100% or above. The color accuracy on this TV will be Lifelike! It is capable of producing accurate colors by default.

What is Color gamut ?

Color gamut spec of a display indicates the range of colors that the TV can produce.

A panel with poor color accuracy will produce washed out colors that will spoil the immersion.

Different manufacturers use different measurement standards to define color gamut. Such as — sRGB, NTSC, DCI P3 to name a few.

But you don't need to worry about that, here is a chart that you can use to choose a TV with good color accuracy.

Color Gamut Chart

After color gamut, next in the list that will impact your experience is Static Contrast.

The importance of static contrast ratio

There are two types of contrast specifications for a TV. Static and Dynamic. We are interested in static contrast ratio. Dynamic doesn't matter much.

Static contrast specification defines the intensity of black levels. That is, a TV with SC ratio less than 1000:1 will produce black images something like this:

Example of a disply with low contrast ratio

Note that, such TVs are also prone backlight bleeds that will rob your experience — as shown below.

Also, a TV with high constrast ratio allows you to see more details. So, resolution and static contrast ratio go hand in hand in a sense.

If given a choice, I will prefer a FHD TV with high contrast ratio over a 4K TV with low contrast ratio.

This TV is rated with a static contrast ratio of 8000:1., good enough to display deep blacks and eye-catching visuals. For the record, it also comes with local dimming feature which is a plus.

HDR is also supported on this TV in form of HDR10 and HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma).

Coming to brightness, the peak luminance the TV can achieve is 250 nits. The backlight of this TV is powered by Direct LED technology.

Gaming Performance

Now if you are going to use your TV other than using it as a TV — say as a PC monitor or for gaming purposes, you should take a TV that features the lowest input lag. For gaming, both the input lag and response time impacts the performance.

Sadly, there is no specification for input lag on this TV. Now, since this is not a cheap TV, we can expect an input lag of less than 20ms.

Understanding Input lag and response time

This lag is the latency at which inputs changes the content of the TV. For casual Non-FPS games, input lag doesn't matter much.

Although for better experience, get a TV that features an input lag and response time of < 20ms.

Ergonomics and Dimensions

Speaking of ergonomics — a VESA mount with interface size of 200 x 200 mm is provided for wall-mounting. The unit doesn't come with Swivel, Tilt or Pivot support.

The TV measures 50 inches vertically and 44.37 inches horizontally. Speaking of thickness, it is just 3 inches thick.

It weighs approximately 9.8 kilograms, another 0.2 kgs including stand. So plan your space accordingly.

Hardware and Audio

The Sony KD-50X75K comes with a 4-Core CPU. However, we could'nt find any information on the total available RAM on the TV's specsheet.

For display connectivity, Sony has provided three HDMI 2.0 ports and one AV Composite In 3.5 mm jack port on this TV.

For connecting USB devices, you will have two USB ports. Other connectivity ports include — 1x Cable/Antenna In (F-type female) and 1x Ethernet RJ45.

For connecting to this TV wirelessly, you will have — a 5Ghz Wi-Fi, 2.5 Ghz Wi-Fi, Wifi-Direct, Bluetooth and DLNA.

Now, speaking of speakers, it is packaged with 2 x 10W speakers.

In terms of power usage, on average, this TV uses around 50.4 watts and on standby, it takes 0.5 watts.

Both 110V and 220V lines are supported on this unit.
