Launched in the year 2022, the QN65QN900B is a 65" 8K TV from Samsung. It comes with a True 10-bit VA panel with Anti-glare/Matte finish.
It can achieve a maximum resolution of 7680 x 4320 with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and pixel density of 136 ppi.
Now, the very next spec of a display that defines picture quality is Color Gamut.
This TV features a DCI P3 color gamut coverage of 100%. Incase you're wondering, this is equivalent to 136.36% sRGB coverage. The color quality on this TV will be Lifelike!
What is Color gamut ?
Color gamut spec of a TV is a measure of the range of colors that the display can display.
A display with poor color reproduction will produce undersaturated/washed out colors that will spoil the immersion.
It is specified in different units - sRGB(most popular), NTSC 1953, DCI P3 Adobe RGB, rec.2020. It is upto the manufacturer which one they choose.
As for this TV its color gamut is specified using DCI P3.
But you don't need to worry about that, here is a chart that you can use to choose a TV with good color accuracy.
Other than color accuracy, you should look at the static contrast specification as it influences the picture quality substantially.
Understanding the static contrast specification
The static contrast ratio of a TV corresponds to its Black levels. A Display with low static contrast ratio (less than 1000:1) will not produce deep blacks. Moreover, such TVs are likely to suffer from backlight bleeds such as this:The image is an example of another display, it is not this one
This will rob your viewing experience considerably, especially in a dark room.
Also note, static contrast ratio and resolution go hand in hand when it comes to details. To put it into perspective, a TV with low contrast ratio will produce less shades of colors, so lesser detail overall.
If given a choice, always prefer a FHD TV with high contrast ratio over a 4K TV with low contrast ratio.
This TV features a static contrast ratio of 10000:1., well enough to display deep blacks and eye-catching visuals. The panel comes with local dimming backlight technology which is a plus.
HDR10, HDR10+, HDR10+ Adaptive, HDR10+ Gaming, HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) and Quantum HDR 64X are also supported on this TV, so that's a plus.
Coming to brightness, it is can achieve a peak luminance of 250 nits, powered by Mini LED backlight.
If you are planning to use a TV other than using it as a TV — like as a PC monitor or Gaming, you would want to take a TV that features the lowest input lag. For gaming however, both input lag and response time affects the performance.
The input lag on this TV is 6 ms and its minimum response time is N/A. So its a go-to TV if you are interested in gaming.
Understanding Input lag and response time
This lag is the latency at which your key-presses/mouse movements changes the content of your TV. Though, this won't matter much if you aren't into competitive/FPS games like call of duty.
For best of both worlds, get a TV that features an input lag and response time of < 20ms.
Ergonomics and Dimensions
Coming to ergonomics — If you plan to wall mount the TV, you can make use of the VESA mount provided with this TV, which by the way has an interface size of 400 x 300 mm. Swivel, Tilt or Pivot features are not supported on this unit.
Vertically, the TV measures 65 inches and horizontally 56.42 inches. Speaking of thickness, it is 0.6 inches thick. In total it weighs 30.5 kgs including its stand. Without stand, it weighs 22.6 Kilograms. So plan your space accordingly.
Hardware and Audio
The TV comes with a 4-Core CPU. There is no information on the RAM on the TV's official specsheet.
The UI on this TV is powered by Tizen 6.5 Operating System.
For display connectivity, Samsung has provided three HDMI 2.0 ports and one HDMI 2.1 port on this TV.
For connecting USB devices, you will have three USB 2.0 ports. Other connectivity ports include — 1x RS232 (C), 1x Cable/Antenna In (F-type female) and 1x Ethernet RJ45.
For wireless connectivity, the manufacturer has provided a 5Ghz Wi-Fi, 2.5 Ghz Wi-Fi, Wifi-Direct, Bluetooth and DLNA.
Now, coming to power consumption, it consumes 114.24W on average and 0.5W on standby.
For powering this unit, you'll need an 100 V - 120 V/50 Hz - 60 Hz outlet.
