Philips 39PHS6707/12 400x400 Image Philips 39PHS6707/12

The 39PHS6707/12 is a 39 inch HD TV from Philips, launched in the year 2022. It comes with a True 8-bit IPS panel.

The max. resolution it can display is 1366 x 768 with a refresh rate of 60 Hz and a pixel density of 40 ppi.

Picture Quality

Now, the very next specification of a display that defines picture quality is Color Gamut.

This TV doesn't provide a color gamut specification, so we have to make an assumption based on its panel type. This unit comes with an IPS panel. Now, IPS panels are known to produce great colors by default. So we can assume the sRGB coverage (equivalent) on this TV to be 70% or above. For content viewing and gaming purposes, you will not need any better color accuracy than this anyway. So its good enough.

Understanding the Color Gamut Specification

Color gamut specification of a display indicates the range of colors that the display can show.

In other words, it determines the ability of a display to produce accurate colors. A panel with low gamut coverage will miss out on some colors (such as deep red), the result would be a "washed out" picture quality.

It is specified in different units - sRGB(most popular), NTSC, DCI P3 Adobe RGB, rec.2020.

But don't worry, below is a chart that will help you choosing a TV with good color accuracy.

Color Gamut Chart

Now, after color gamut, you should look at the static contrast specification as it influences the picture quality substantially.

What is Static Contrast ratio ?

A TV with low static contrast ratio will not produce deep blacks and may bleed backlight as below:

Backlight bleed exampleThe image is an example of another display, it is not this one

The static contrast ratio of above TV is 800:1. So make sure you get a TV with a static contrast of >= 1000:1. More the better.

Think of static contrast as another dimension to details — just like resolution. To put it into perspective, a TV with low contrast ratio will produce less shades of colors, so lesser detail overall.

If given a choice, always prefer a FHD TV with high contrast ratio over a 4K TV with low contrast ratio.

There's no mention of this spec in the TV's official specsheet. So we have to make an assumption again based on the TV's other specs. In general, IPS panels come with a static contrast ratio between 700:1 - 1500:1. Now, for a TV launched in 2022, we can assume the ratio of Philips 39PHS6707/12 to be atleast 1200:1 or above.

HDR, HDR10 and HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) are also supported on this TV.

Coming to brightness, the peak luminance it can achieve is 250 nits. The backlight of this TV is powered by Edge LED technology.

Gaming Performance

If you are planning to use your TV solely for content consumption, you can ignore these specs. But if you are also going to use the TV for gaming or use it as a PC monitor, you would want to get a TV with the lowest input lag and response time.

Unfortunately, there is no specification for input lag on this TV. Now, IPS panels in general are infamous for high input lags and response times. So, expect the input lag to be above 20ms. Though, Non-FPS and casual games should be playable.

What is Input lag ?

This lag is the amount of time at which your device inputs changes the content of your TV. Though, this won't matter much if you aren't into competitive/FPS games like call of duty.

But ideally, get a TV that features an input lag and response time of less than 20ms.

Ergonomics and Dimensions

Speaking of ergonomics — VESA mount is supported on this TV with an interface size of 100 x 100 mm. The unit doesn't come with either Swivel, Tilt or Pivot support.

The width of this TV is 35 inches while its height is 21.24 inches. It is just 2.96 inches thick. In total the TV weighs 5.2 kgs including stand. Without stand, it weighs 5.0 Kilograms. So plan your space accordingly.
