ABOUT THIS TV

Hisense 65U8GQ 400x400 Image Hisense 65U8GQ

Launched in the year 2021, the 65U8GQ is a 65" 4K TV from Hisense. It features a 10-bit IPS panel with Anti-glare/Matte finish.

It can achieve a maximum resolution of 3840 x 2160 with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and pixel density of 68 ppi.

Picture Quality

After screen size and resolution, the next important specification to look for in a display is its Color Reproduction Accuracy (defined by its color gamut specification).

This TV doesn't come with a color gamut specification, but don't worry, we have other means to guess that. As this TV features a 65 inch screen, it won't come with a cheap panel, so here we can assume its equivalent sRGB coverage to be 90-100% or above. The color accuracy on this TV should be Lifelike! It is capable of producing accurate colors out of the box.

What Color Gamut means ?

Color gamut specification of a display indicates the range of colors that it can show.

In other words, it indicates the ability of a TV to produce accurate colors. A display with low color gamut coverage will miss out on some colors (such as deep red), so the image produced will look "washed out" in colors.

Different manufacturers use different units to define color gamut. Viz — sRGB, NTSC 1953, DCI P3 etc.

But you don't need to worry about that, below is a chart that will help you choosing a TV with good color accuracy.

Color Gamut Chart

After color gamut, next in the list of important specifications is Static Contrast.

What is Static Contrast ?

A TV with low static contrast ratio will not produce deep enough blacks and possibly bleed backlight as shown in the images below:

Backlight bleed exampleThe image is an example of another display, it is not this one

The static contrast ratio of above TV is 800:1. So make sure you get a TV with a static contrast of >= 1000:1. More is better.

Think of static contrast as another dimension to details — just like resolution. To put it into perspective, a TV with low contrast ratio will produce less shades of colors, thus lesser detail overall.

This TV features a static contrast ratio of 1200 : 1. — good enough for a TV in this range. For the record, it also comes with local dimming backlight which is a plus.

Dolby Vision, HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma), HDR10+ and Dolby Vision IQ are also supported on this TV, so that's a plus.

Coming to brightness, the peak brightness it can achieve is 1000 nits. The panel of this TV is powered by Direct LED (Full-Array Local Dimming) backlight. This amount of brightness is good enough even for a room with sun's rays in!

Gaming Performance

If you are going to use your TV other than using it as a TV — say as a PC monitor or for gaming purposes, you would want to get a TV that features the lowest input lag. For gaming, both the input lag and response time impacts the performance.

Unfortunately, we cannot find the input lag specification for this unit. Now, since this is not a cheap TV from Hisense, we can expect an input lag of less than 20ms.

What is Input lag ?

This lag is the amount of time at which your inputs changes the content of your TV. Though, this won't matter much if you aren't into competitive/FPS games like call of duty.

For best of both worlds, look for a TV that has an input lag and response time of < 20ms.

Ergonomics and Dimensions

Now, coming to ergonomics — VESA mount is supported on this TV with an interface size of 400 x 400 mm. However, there is no Swivel, Tilt or Pivot feature support in this TV.

The vertical and horizontal measurements of this TV are 57.17 inches and 35.83 inches respectively.

Speaking of thickness, it is 2.91 inches thick.

In total the TV weighs approximately 26.8 Kgs including stand. Without stand, it weighs 24.5 Kgs.

Hardware and Audio

The chipset of Hisense 65U8GQ is powered by a 4-Core (2x ARM Cortex-A73 + 2x ARM Cortex-A52) CPU and a (ARM Mali-G51) GPU.. However, Hisense didn't provide any specification on the total available RAM on the TV's official specsheet.

Speaking of OS, the Hisense 65U8GQ runs VIDAA U5.0 Operating System.

For display connectivity, there are four HDMI 2.0 (CEC) ports and one AV Composite In (Video + L/R) port on this TV.
