ABOUT THIS TV

Hisense 65A6GQ 400x400 Image Hisense 65A6GQ

The 65A6GQ is a 65 inch 4K TV from Hisense. It was launched in 2021. It comes with a 10-bit IPS panel. It can display a max resolution of 3840 x 2160 @ 60 Hz with a pixel density of 68 ppi.

Picture Quality

After screen size and resolution, the next most important spec to look for in a display is its Color Reproduction (defined by its color gamut specification).

This TV comes with a DCI P3 gamut coverage of 95%, which is equivalent to 129.55% sRGB. The color quality on this TV should be Lifelike!

Understanding the Color Gamut Specification

Color gamut specification of a TV indicates the range of colors that the display can produce.

A TV with poor color reproduction will produce undersaturated/washed out colors that will spoil your immersive experience.

Different manufacturers use different measurement standards to specify color gamut. Viz — sRGB, NTSC 1953, DCI P3 to name a few.

For example, the color gamut of this TV is specified in DCI P3.

But don't worry, below is a chart that you can use to choose a TV with good color accuracy.

Color Gamut Chart

Other than color accuracy, you should look at the static contrast specification as it impacts the picture quality the same way.

What is Static Contrast ratio ?

There are two types of contrast specifications for a TV. Static and Dynamic. We are interested in static contrast ratio as dynamic doesn't matter much.

This specification defines the intensity of black levels. That is, a TV with static contrast ratio less than 1000:1 will produce black images something like this:

Example of a disply with low contrast ratio

Apart from that, such TVs are also prone backlight bleeds that will affect your experience — as shown below.

Static contrast ratio and resolution go hand in hand when it comes to details. To put it into perspective, a TV with low contrast ratio will show both dark gray and black as black, so lesser detail overall.

If given a choice, always prefer a FHD TV with high contrast ratio over a 4K TV with low contrast ratio.

This TV comes with a static contrast ratio of 1200 : 1. — good enough for a TV in this range. For the record, it also comes with local dimming which is a plus.

HDR is also supported on this TV in form of Dolby Vision, HDR10, HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) and HDR10+.

As for brightness, the peak brightness it can produce is 300 nits. The backlight of this TV is powered by Direct LED technology.

Gaming Performance

Now if you are planning to use your TV other than watching videos — say as a PC monitor or Gaming, you should take a TV with lowest input lag. For gaming, both the input lag and response time affects the performance.

The input lag on this TV is 20 ms and its minimum response time is N/A. It is acceptable for casual and non-FPS games but is not suitable for competitive or FPS games.

Understanding Input lag and response time

This lag is the amount of time at which key-presses/mouse movements changes the content of the screen. Though, this won't matter much if you aren't into competitive/FPS games like call of duty.

Although for better experience, get a TV that features an input lag and response time of < 20ms.

Dimensions and Ergonomics

The vertical and horizontal measurements of this TV are 57.17 inches and 35.28 inches respectively. Speaking of thickness, it is just 2.91 inches thick. Overall it weighs 16.7 Kgs including its stand. Without stand, it weighs 16.5 Kgs. So plan your space accordingly.

Speaking of ergonomics — If you plan to wall mount the TV, you can make use of the VESA mount provided with this TV, which by the way has an interface size of 400 x 300 mm. Swivel, Tilt or Pivot features are not supported on this unit.
