ABOUT THIS TV

Hisense 55U7G PRO 400x400 Image Hisense 55U7G PRO

The 55U7G PRO is a 55 inch 4K TV from Hisense. It was launched in 2021. It features a 10-bit IPS-ADS panel with Anti-glare/Matte finish. It can display a max resolution of 3840 x 2160 @ 144 Hz with a pixel density of 80 ppi.

Picture Quality

After screen size and resolution, the next important spec of a display is its Color Reproduction Accuracy (defined by its color gamut specification).

The Hisense 55U7G PRO comes with a DCI P3 color space coverage of 97%. FYI, this is equivalent to 132.27% sRGB. The color accuracy on this TV should be Lifelike!

What is Color gamut ?

Color gamut specification of a TV is a measure of the range of colors that the TV can show.

Put Simply, it indicates the ability of a TV to produce accurate colors. A display with low gamut coverage will miss out on some colors (such as deep red), the result would be a "washed out" picture quality.

Different manufacturers use different measurement standards to specify color gamut. Such as — sRGB (most popular), NTSC, DCI P3 to name a few.

For example, the color gamut of this TV is specified using DCI P3.

But don't worry, here is a chart that will help you choosing a TV with good color accuracy.

Next in the list that will impact your experience is Static Contrast.

Why its important?

There are two types of contrast specifications for a TV. Static and Dynamic. We are interested in static contrast ratio. Dynamic doesn't matter much.

This defines the intensity of black levels. That is, a TV with SC ratio less than 1000:1 may produce black images something like this:

Example of a disply with low contrast ratio

Moreover, such TVs are likely be prone to backlight bleeds that will rob your experience — as shown below.

Think of static contrast as another dimension to details — just like resolution. To put it into perspective, a TV with low contrast ratio will show both dark gray and black as black, thus lesser detail overall.

This TV comes with a static contrast ratio of 8000:1., well enough to achieve deep blacks and eye-catching visuals. The panel comes with local dimming feature which is a plus.

HDR is also supported on this TV in form of Dolby Vision, Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10 and HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma).

As for brightness, it is can achieve a maximum luminance of 1600 nits. The backlight of this TV is powered by Direct LED (Full-Array Local Dimming) technology. This amount of brightness is good enough even for a room with sun's rays in!

Gaming Performance

If you are not planning to game on this TV, you can ignore these specifications. But if you are also planning to use the TV for playing games or use it as a PC monitor, you should get a TV with the lowest input lag and response time.

The input lag on this TV is 15 ms and its minimum response time is N/A. It is good enough for both casual and competitive/FPS games.

What is Input Lag and Why it matters ?

This lag is the latency at which key-presses/mouse movements changes the content of the screen. For casual Non-FPS games, input lag doesn't matter much.

For best of both worlds, look for a TV that comes with an input lag and response time of less than 20ms.

Ergonomics and Dimensions

Now, coming to ergonomics — If you plan to wall mount the TV, you can make use of the VESA mount provided with this TV, which by the way has an interface size of 400 x 300 mm. There is no Swivel, Tilt or Pivot feature support in this TV.

The width of this TV is 48.54 inches while its height is 30.59 inches. Coming to thickness, it is 3 inches thick. It weighs around 16.0 kgs and 1 kgs extra if you include stand.

Hardware and Audio

The internals of this TV is powered by a Quad Core (4x ARM Cortex-A73) CPU along with a 2-Core 1.4 Ghz (ARM Mali-G52) GPU. The available RAM on this TV is 3 GB.

Speaking of OS, the Hisense 55U7G PRO runs Android 9 Operating System.
