Launched in the year 2022, the MSI Optix G271CQP is a 27" Quad HD Monitor from MSI. It comes with a 10-bit Curved VA panel with Anti-glare/Matte finish.

The maximum resolution it can achieve is 2560 x 1440 @ 165 Hz with a pixel density of 109 ppi.

Picture Quality

After screen size and resolution, the next important spec of a Display that impacts picture quality is Color Gamut.

Speaking of which, this monitor features a DCI P3 gamut coverage of 90%. Incase you're wondering, this is equivalent to 122.73% sRGB. The color accuracy on this monitor will be Lifelike! Thus, this display is also ideal for professionals who are into photo editing and color grading business.

Understanding the Color Gamut Specification

Color gamut spec of a Monitor indicates the range of colors that the display can produce.

In other words, this specification determines the ability of a display to produce accurate colors. A display with low gamut coverage will miss out on some colors (such as deep red), so the image produced will look "washed out" in colors.

Different manufacturers use different units to specify color gamut. Viz — sRGB (most popular), NTSC 1953, DCI P3 etc.

For example, the color gamut of this Monitor is specified using DCI P3.

But you don't need to worry about that, here is a chart that will help you choosing a Monitor with good color accuracy.

Color Gamut Chart

Other than color accuracy, the static contrast of a display also impacts its picture quality.

Understanding Static Contrast

A Display with low static contrast ratio will not produce deep enough blacks and can bleed backlight as below:

The above Monitor's static contrast is 800:1. So make sure you get a Display with a static contrast of >= 1000:1. Ofcourse, More the better.

Like resolution, the static contrast ratio is also equally responsible for details. To put it into perspective, a Display with low contrast ratio will produce less shades of colors, so lesser detail overall.

This Monitor comes with a static contrast ratio of 3000 : 1, good enough to produce deep blacks.

As for brightness, the peak brightness the MSI Optix G271CQP can achieve is 250 nits, powered by W-LED backlight technology.

Gaming Performance

If you are a gamer, make sure to take a Monitor with lowest input lag and response times.

The input lag on this Monitor is 5 ms and its minimum response time is 1 ms. Its the best you can get for gaming.

What is Input Lag and Why it matters ?

This lag is the amount of time at which your key-presses/mouse movements changes the content of the screen. Though, this won't matter much if you aren't into competitive/FPS games like call of duty.

But ideally, get a Display that comes with an input lag and response time of less than 20ms.

Ergonomics and Dimensions

Coming to ergonomics — If you plan to wall mount the Monitor, you can make use of 75 x 75 mm VESA mount (to be purchased separately). The display supports Swivel and Tilt, however there is no support for Pivot on this Monitor.

Vertically, the Monitor extends upto 17.26 inches (adjustable +3.54 inches) and horizontally 23.87 inches. In total the monitor weighs approximately 5.65 KGs (including stand). Without stand, it weighs 4.45 kgs. So plan your desk space accordingly.

For display connectivity, MSI has provided two HDMI 2.0 (b; CEC) ports and one DisplayPort 1.2 (a) port on this monitor.

However, there are no USB ports are included on this unit.

Now, coming to power usage, on average, this monitor uses about 51.2 watts and on standby, it takes 0.5 watts.

For powering this monitor, you'll need either a 110V or 220V outlet @ 50Hz-60Hz.
