Launched in the year 2022, the MSI Modern MD271CP is a 27" Full HD Monitor from MSI. It features a 8-bit Curved VA panel with Anti-glare/Matte finish.
The maximum resolution it can display is 1920 x 1080 @ 75 Hz with a pixel density of 81 ppi.
After screen size and resolution, the next important spec of a Display that will impact your experience is its Color Gamut.
Speaking of which, this monitor comes with a sRGB color gamut coverage of 102%. Thus the color quality on this Monitor should be excellent! So your content viewing experience would be immersive as this display is capable of producing near accurate colors out of the box. This panel is not only great for content viewing but also good enough for mid-level photo-editing and similar tasks.
What is Color gamut ?
Color gamut specification of a Monitor is a measure of the range of colors that the monitor can display.
A panel with poor color reproduction will produce undersaturated colors that will spoil the immersion.
Different manufacturers use different units to define color gamut. Viz — sRGB, NTSC, DCI P3 etc.
For example, the color gamut of this Monitor is specified in sRGB.
But you don't need to worry about that, below is a chart that you can use to choose a Monitor with good color accuracy.
Now, after color gamut, the static contrast of a display similarly impacts its picture quality.
Understanding Static Contrast
A display with high enough static contrast ratio will produce natural deep blacks while a display with low contrast ratio (<1000:1) will produce images that may look muddy as shown below.
As you see, this will impact your experience considerably.
Also, a Display with high constrast ratio lets you to see more details. So, resolution and static contrast ratio go hand in hand.
If given a choice, always prefer a FHD Display with high contrast ratio over a 4K Display with low contrast ratio.
This Display features a static contrast ratio of 3000 : 1, good enough to produce deep blacks.
As for brightness, the peak luminance it can achieve is 250 nits, powered by W-LED backlight.
Now if you are planning to use this display primarily for gaming, you should get a Monitor that features the lowest input lag and response times.
Sadly, we cannot find the input lag specification for this unit. Now, VA panels in general are known for high input lags and response times. So, expect the input lag to be greater than 20ms. Though, there's no concern for playability of casual or Non-FPS games on it.
What is Input lag ?
This lag is the latency at which key-presses/mouse movements changes the content of the screen. For casual Non-FPS games, input lag doesn't matter much.
For best of both worlds, look for a Monitor that has an input lag and response time of < 20ms.
Dimensions and Ergonomics
The horizontal and vertical measurements of the this Display are 24 inches and 16.68 inches ( adjustable upto 4.33 inches ) respectively. In total the monitor weighs approximately 6.13 KGs including stand. Without stand, it weighs 4.93 KGs. So plan your desk space accordingly.
Now, coming to ergonomics — If you plan to wall mount the Monitor, you can make use of 75 x 75 mm VESA mount (to be purchased separately). It also supports Swivel and Tilt, but there is no support for Pivot on this Monitor.
For display connectivity, MSI has provided one HDMI 1.4 port on this Monitor.
For connecting USB devices, you will have one USB (Type-C; upstream; 15W; DP Alt Mode) port.
The monitor also packaged with 2 x 1W built-in speakers.
As for power usage, on average, this monitor consumes around 41.6 Watts. On standby, it uses 0.5 Watts.
