Launched in the year 2022, the MSI MEG 342C is a 34" WQHD Monitor from MSI. It features a True 10-bit Curved QD-OLED panel with Anti-glare/Matte (3H) finish.
The max. resolution it can achieve is 3440 x 1440 @ 175 Hz with a pixel density of 109 ppi.
After screen size and resolution, the next most important spec of a Display is its Color Reproduction (defined by its color gamut specification).
The MSI MEG 342C comes with 99% DCI P3 color gamut coverage, which is equivalent to 135.41% sRGB. The color quality on this monitor will be Lifelike! Thus, it will also be useful for professionals who are interested in photo editing or color grading business.
Understanding Color Gamut
Color gamut spec of a Monitor is the measurement of the range of colors that the monitor can produce.
A display with poor color reproduction will produce undersaturated/washed out colors that will spoil the immersion.
Different manufacturers use different units to define color gamut. Such as — sRGB (most popular), NTSC, DCI P3 Adobe RGB and rec.2020.
As for this Monitor it is specified in DCI P3.
But don't worry, here is a chart that will help you choosing a Monitor with good color accuracy.
Now, after color gamut, the static contrast specification of a display has equally important role in picture quality.
Why its important?
A Display with low static contrast ratio will not produce deep enough blacks and possibly can bleed backlight as in the below image:The image is an example of another display, it is not this one
The static contrast ratio of above Display is rated 800:1. So make sure you get a Display with a static contrast of >= 1000:1. More is better.
Also, a Display with high constrast ratio lets you to see more details. So, resolution and static contrast ratio go hand in hand.
For a display with OLED panel, its static constrast will be Infinity : 1. So no need to worry about this.
HDR10 and DisplayHDR 400 True Black are also supported on this Monitor, so that's a plus.
As for brightness, the peak brightness the Display can produce is 1000 nitsThis amount of brightness is good enough even for a well-lit room!
If you are going to use this display primarily for gaming, make sure to get a Monitor that features the lowest input lag and response times.
The input lag on the MSI MEG 342C is 5 ms and its minimum response time is 0.1 ms. As a gamer, you will love this Monitor.
Understanding Input lag and response time
This lag is the amount of time at which device inputs changes the content of your Monitor. Though, this won't matter much if you aren't into competitive/FPS games like call of duty.
For best of both worlds, get a Display that comes with an input lag and response time of less than 20ms.
Dimensions and Ergonomics
The horizontal and vertical measurements of the this Display are 32.46 inches and 15.63 inches respectively. In total, it weighs around 11.2 KGs. So plan your desk space accordingly.
